My name is Chris Olivares. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, I grew up playing sports – football had my heart as I have played since I was three. After high school I hung up the cleats, but still had a drive to remain active in college. I also had a severe insecurity about being a skinny twig so that led me to pick up the weights to feel something :) This would be the start of my fitness journey as I would take a deep dive in to the worlds of building muscle, nutrition, strength training, and how to build an aesthetic. Little did I know that this was also the start of my desire for personal development and asking questions about what it means to live a good life and unlock the potential as a human. I would stumble across the teachings of Stoicism during some rough times that opened my eyes to the power of learning philosophy and understanding the mind.
This ignited a quest of deeper learning about all these subjects and further progress my thirst for knowledge. Completing several certifications in nutrition and personal training, I began to learn application of these topics and uncovered my passion for writing and teaching others. This would lead to the creation of Neo Aesthetics. Besides fitness, I am a huge Star Wars nerd. Yes the prequels are my favorite trilogy – If you don't think so, I'm sorry for your lack of taste. I also love to have my heart broken watching the Las Vegas Raiders on Sundays. Though I was born in the desert, I am a water child at heart, so any time spent by the ocean is a perfect day. Before getting in to the fitness industry, I was a vet assistant turned technician working at multiple clinics since high school. I earned my bachelors in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M Univeristy - Corpus Christi.
Alright look, by no stretch am I an expert yet in any of these topics I discuss on here. There is a huge pool of people that are way smarter than me in regards to them, and I am just getting my feet wet. Do I know more than the average person about these topics? Likely, but it was driven more by a huge internal curiosity about trying to fix my own insecurities and problems that led to me to learn so much about them. I would build an aesthetic that my younger self could only dream of as a result of my studies, but what I would really learn is the valuable life lessons that fitness has shown me along the way. I discovered how much I also enjoyed teaching these lessons and knowledge to others, and what impact it could have on them. I am not trying to be anyone's guru or become an "influencer". Selfishly, I created Neo Aesthetics as a way to create a platform to deliver this information to others as I believe it will really benefit them as much as it has done for me. Truth be told, I would still be fully content if it was only my mom that reads all my shit - Love you mom. However, if this information even just reaches one person and it has a positive impact on their life, then I know what I am doing is worth it.
Neo Aesthetics is my attempt in trying to make a difference in this world by helping those who live in it become a better version of themselves. I fully believe we all have a capability in unlocking our potential as human beings. This potential is unlocked by sculpting our bodies, minds and souls. My goal with Neo Aesthetics is to serve as a resource for those who have been asking similar questions in doing just that. Of course I understand that I have so much to learn about what it means to unlock that potential - I'm a damn rookie in this game of life. I don't have all the answers, nor do I know for sure that the answers I do have are the right ones. I do feel as long as we keep asking questions and be forever students, we will come closer to that answer. At least what I do know is that if we are not growing, then we are dying, and the worst realization comes from the one of yourself at the end of your life meeting the version of you that met their full potential. This idea is perfectly encapsulated in one of my favorite quotes from Socrates:
"It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable."
The only thing I would add to that quote is add "..mind, and soul" after body, for a powerful body is worthless without a powerful mind to govern it, and a powerful mind is unfit without a powerful soul to keep it just. We all get just one crack at this rollercoaster ride that is life. I hope you join me in trying to make the most of it before the ride comes to a end and leave the ride even better for those who are riding it after us.
Much love, always.
